‘Is Handling Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Crucial in Project Management?’
Today’s organizations have become less hierarchical, less dependent on management authority with plastic boundaries. As a result, project management genetics have evolved too, creating conflicts with a different facet. Conflicts in project management have become inevitable, often beneficial and needs to be managed. Projects involve people with different skills, cultural values, and methods of executing tasks. The involvement of multiple stakeholders in a project causes budgetary constraints, project stresses etc. Even the appearance of a conflict negatively impacts the organization, from management to workers. As a result, the key metrics of project success, budget, time, standards and customer approval suffers, resulting in time and cost overruns. Successful organizations try to develop project managers to become sound decisions makers at the time of conflict, which in turn defines the type of leader that you are.
